June BCPC Meeting with Sherry Brooks

The Breast Cancer Prevention Coalition held its most recent meeting on June 7th, 2010 at "Honey at the Rock," across from the Augusta National on Washington Road.  The keynote speaker for this meeting was Sherry Brooks, Manager of the new Boutique at MCG's Cancer Center.  Twenty five ladies were in attendance - each of which was inspired by Sherry's personal message and faith in God.

Sherry has helped her husband, Cesar, pastor Faith Fellowship in North Augusta and later Maranatha Fellowship in Augusta. She has traveled and spoken to women's groups throughout the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Haiti, England, Russia and Nicaragua.  She and Cesar founded an orphanage in Jinotega, Nicaragua, and helped start three churches in Russia. Sherry is now employed at the Medical College of Georgia's Cancer Center as manager of the Boutique. She helps women who are going through chemotherapy with wigs and those who have a mastectomy with prosthesis and post surgical bras. Sherry is a licensed minister, licensed cosmetologist and a licensed mastectomy/prosthesis fitter.

During the meeting, Karen Eckert was applauded for her outstanding job as chairman of the "Calendar for the Cure" mouse pad fundraiser. Dr. Celeste Spence, Dr. Margaret Devore and Sara Mantel were recognized for their contributions to help pay for the printing of mouse pads. Everyone was asked to take at least ten mouse pads to distribute to help ensure that our total of one thousand mouse pads will be distributed. The goal for this fundraiser is a minimum of $8,000 for the first production of mouse pads. Hopefully, we will have a second production! The ladies will be responsible for getting the word out about this most worthy cause.
